Austek Roads, Ventia, and Brisbane Airport Corporation honoured for sustainable excellence in Pavement Management

Austek Roads, in collaboration with Ventia and Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC), has achieved an impressive milestone by receiving the Outstanding Project Award (under $10m) at the Australian Flexible Pavement Association (AfPA) Industry Awards. This accolade not only recognises the collaborative efforts of the three entities but also celebrates Austek Roads unwavering commitment to excellence and sustainability in pavement asset management.

The award-winning project incorporates recovered carbon black from local tyres, a process designed to significantly reduce landfill waste. Furthermore, the utilisation of tyre-derived fuel oil (TDFO) in the manufacturing process adds another layer of sustainability to the project.

The award-winning project gains additional significance given its location at Brisbane Airport, the third-largest airport in Australia in terms of passenger numbers. With over 3,700 weekly aircraft movements and a daily influx of thousands of vehicles navigating the airport road network, Brisbane Airport stands as a vital hub poised for growth, especially as it prepares to play a pivotal role as the gateway to the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.

Since 2021, Ventia and Austek Roads have been providing asset management and maintenance services for BAC’s pavement and roadside assets.
