Austek Roads collaborates with Moreton Bay Regional Council

In a collaboration between Austek Roads and the Moreton Bay Regional Council, the recently completed resurfacing project on Brays Rd, Griffin stands as a testament to innovation, durability, and sustainability. Austek Roads, a leading player in the road construction industry, employed their innovative Carbonmastic® product to revamp the road, providing not only enhanced performance but also contributing to sustainability efforts.

The decision to use Carbonmastic® for the Brays Rd project was based on its remarkable strength, durability, and superior skid resistance. This innovative material is a form of Small Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA), uniquely modified with carbon char reclaimed from discarded Queensland waste tyres. The utilisation of Carbonmastic® not only addresses the need for robust road surfaces but also tackles the growing concern of waste management.

For every tonne of Carbonmastic® produced, 7.5 passenger vehicle tyres are repurposed. In the case of the Brays Rd project, this translated to the repurposing of 550 used tyres. Ultimately saving approximately 2,672kg of CO2.

The Carbonmastic® pavement provides a safer and more durable road surface, ensuring enhanced skid resistance. This not only improves road safety but also reduces the long-term maintenance costs for the Moreton Bay Regional Council.
